Why the NHL, players are back at the table
By BRUCE GARRIOCH, QMI Agency
The NHL is determined to get hockey going in December.
While many are wondering why the league and the players union are continuing to meet with little progress being made, it's because the NHL wants to get the game back on the ice.
"There are some owners that don't care. They're going to make money no matter what," a league insider said. "There are some guys who don't want to go back unless they get to 50-50 or there's mechanism for them to collect more money from revenue sharing.
"Look, 50-50 is not going to save (some teams). It does give a team that is well run a chance to make money. If you have a market where people are buying tickets and supporting the team, you should be able to make money, not lose big money."
