Carolina Hurricanes forward Alex Semin chose location over money when he picked a team to play for during the NHL lockout.

Semin, who will make $7 million on his one-year deal with the Hurricanes, is expected to play Friday for Sokol Krasnoyarsk, a team in the second division of Russian hockey, a step below the KHL. The team plays near the town where Semin grew up.

According to Sovietsky Sport, Semin will make a whopping $1,600 per month with Sokol. That's a heck of a pay cut but it doesn't seem to bother Semin.

"Money is not the most important thing in life," he told Sovietsky Sport. "Even if I spend the entire season in Krasnoyarsk, it won't be a loss for me."
