Isles make changes, Capuano not one of them
By QMI AGENCY
Jack Capuano won't take the fall for another lost season by the New York Islanders.
The same can't be said for his assistants, though.
While the Isles head coach will keep his job -- owner Charles Wang has already said Capuano and general manager Garth Snow will be back next season -- assistant coaches Scott Allen and Dean Chynoweth are both looking for new gigs. The team announced Monday that Allen and Chynoweth "will not return" for the 2012-13 campaign.
The two assistants were part of Scott Gordon's staff before he was fired in 2010 and replaced by Capuano.
The Islanders (34-37-11) finished last in the Atlantic Division for the fifth consecutive year.
Teemu Selanne will not play in the world championship, according to media reports in Finland. The 41-year-old winger had 26 goals and 40 assists this season with the Anaheim Ducks. The Helsinki native hasn't decided if he will return to the NHL next season ... The Columbus Blue Jackets won't be bringing back Rob Riley as Springfield Falcons coach. Riley led the AHL Falcons to a 36-34-3-3 record this past season. Before his two seasons in Springfield, Riley was a member of the Blue Jackets scouting staff. Previously, he coached Army for 18 years and compiled a 257-288-33 record.
