Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien told reporters Tuesday he will no longer give updates on the condition of concussed forward Nathan Horton.

Horton has missed five games since being concussed Jan. 23 on a hit by Philadelphia Flyers forward Tom Sestito. Julien has clearly become exasperated with daily questions about his status so he's clamming up, at least until Horton starts practicing with the Bruins.

"Guys, I'm done talking about it," Julien said. "I can't give you an update every day on this guy because it could be long, it could be short. When you see him on the ice with us, it's going to be a really good sign, so we'll leave it at that. I can't just come out here every day and give you guys an update, because it doesn't make sense."

The concussion is Horton's second in the last eight months. He was also concussed on a hit by Aaron Rome in last year's Stanley Cup final.

RUFF DAY-TO-DAY

It's not a good sign when a coach is added to a team's official injury list.

The Buffalo Sabres listed coach Lindy Ruff as day-to-day Tuesday and general manager Darcy Regier admitted he wasn't sure when the 51-year-old would be able to go behind the bench again. Ruff broke three ribs in a collision with defenceman Jordan Leopold during practice on Monday.

"Based on this morning, it's certainly very painful. He was in a lot of pain," Regier said. "He's in a good mood, as good as he can be. But he's talking pretty quietly for obvious reasons."

Ruff missed the Sabres workout Tuesday -- assistant coach James Patrick ran the practice -- and could sit out Wednesday's game against the Boston Bruins.

Still nursing a nagging upper-body injury, forward Thomas Vanek won't play against the Bruins, the third straight game he's missed.

BRIEFLY

Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Briere returned to the lineup Tuesday against the New York Islanders after missing six games with a concussion. Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk, out with a concussion, is still experiencing headaches and doesn't expect to play any time soon ... The NHL rescinded the game misconduct Anaheim Ducks defenceman Luca Sbisa picked up against the Calgary Flames Monday. Sbisa was given a major penalty for head butting in addition to the misconduct ... The Pittsburgh Penguins called up forward Jason Williams from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL and put forward Arron Asham on injured reserve ... Sharks forward Andrew Murray cleared waivers and was sent to Worcester of the AHL. The Sharks also sent goalie Antero Niittymaki to Syracuse of the AHL.
