Wayne Gretzky will not play in the Winter Classic alumni game after all.
Gretzky told organizers for the NHL's annual outdoor game, which in 2012 will see the New York Rangers play the host Philadelphia Flyers, that he won't suit up for the Rangers alumni, according to CSNPhilly.com.
The Great One reportedly said he would have played if the game was held in New York.
Rosters for the alumni teams have not been released but it's thought Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber and Eric Lindros will play for the Flyers while Mark Messier will play for the Rangers, with Mike Keenan behind the bench.
