Philadelphia Flyers forward Tom Sestito was suspended four games, including two in the regular season, for an illegal hit on New York Rangers forward Andre Deveaux.

The suspension might not be applied immediately, though. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said he intends to waive Sestito so he can be sent to the team's AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.

Sestito was banned from the Flyers last two preseason games and first two regular-season tilts after he ran Deveaux from behind Monday in Philly. Deveaux wasn't hurt on the play.

SHOULDER WOES

Centre Mike Santorelli of the Florida Panthers will miss the start of the regular season after injuring a shoulder in Tuesday's preseason game.

Santorelli had a breakout 2010-11 season, scoring 20 goals while playing in all 82 games after being acquired in a deal with the Nashville Predators.

"He certainly won't be ready for the start of the season," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen told the Miami Herald Wednesday. "We'll say he's a couple weeks to start and we'll go from there. This is not long term. He's pretty tender and we'll expect to see him between the start of the season and Halloween."

The injury could open the door for Jonathan Huberdeau, the third overall pick last summer, to stick with the Panthers. Huberdeau has scored a pair of goals in the preseason but still hasn't signed an entry-level contract yet.

BRIEFLY

An upper-body injury will keep forward Dan Cleary out of the lineup for the Detroit Red Wings last four preseason games. Cleary was hurt Friday and has been skating with the Wings since then but his status for the season opener is still in doubt ... St. Louis Blues forward Jason Arnott will miss a week after having minor eye surgery Wednesday. Arnott, who signed with the Blues as a free agent, had a cataract removed from his right eye ... Edmonton Oilers centre Sam Gagner has a high ankle sprain and will be out indefinitely. Coach Tom Renney says Gagner is week-to-week ... The Vancouver Canucks recalled defenceman Yann Sauve from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. Sauve played two preseason games this year after seeing action in five regular-season games last season.
