Jersey? Sure.

While star forward Zach Parise signed only a one-year contract this summer with the Devils, he, likes the, ah, situation in New Jersey.

Parise told NHL.com Thursday that by no means did he sign the deal thinking it would be a one-and-done situation.

"We talked about both (a short-term and a long-term deal)," Parise said.

"Without getting into too much detail with respect to everyone involved, (a one-year deal) made the most sense."

Parise said he and the Devils would continue to discuss a long-term contract.

"We'll keep going and keep working on it."

Parise, 27, said despite rumours he wants to test free agency, he likes playing for and living in New Jersey.

Briefly

The Phoenix Coyotes acquired goaltender Marc Cheverie from the Florida Panthers for centre Justin Bernhardt Thursday. Cheverie, 24, had a 13-9-5 record and a 3.11 goals-against average with Cincinnati of the ECHL, and a 2-7-1 record with a 3.91 GAA with Rochester of the AHL. Bernhardt, 23, had six goals and 19 assists in 47 games for the Los Angeles Wranglers of the ECHL ... The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed veteran forward Richard Park to a one-year deal.

Park, 35, spent the past season with Geneve Servette of the Swiss National League, getting 15 goals and 19 assists in 47 games.
