MONTREAL - Several former NHL tough-guys will be on the TVA Sports roster for its big launch next month.
Dave Morissette, Georges Laraque and Enrico Ciccone will take their fight to the studio for an extended version of the hockey talk show, "The Match."
Also featured on The Match will be ex-Montreal Canadiens defenceman Patrice Brisebois, a 16-year NHL veteran. Renowned sports columnist Rejean Tremblay, recently hired away from Montreal's La Presse newspaper, will also lend his talents to the debate.
The Match will be expanded to 60 minutes for the upcoming season.
TVA Sports has also grabbed a personality from the English side of the dial to anchor its late-night sportscast.
Michel Godbout, a long-time news and sports anchor at CBC Montreal, jumped ship earlier this month.
TVA Sports has already snagged major properties, including the rights to air 25 Ottawa Senators games per season. It will also broadcast 60 Toronto Blue Jays games and recently acquired the broadcast rights to the Montreal Impact, a team joining Major League Soccer next season.
As well, in a deal with Montreal-based InterBox, TVA Sports will air major fights, including those featuring undefeated Canadian superstar Lucian Bute, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
It's all part of a bullish expansion effort by Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau, who has now created three major divisions in just two years.
The QMI news agency launched in 2009 and Sun News Network hit the airwaves across Canada in April.
