The economic climate has improved over the last decade, there’s more expendable income in the community and the people who have always loved their NHL team, even in absentia, are determined to make it work this time around.

These are fans who had their hearts broken when the team left and who have been tantalized for years over the prospect of the NHL’s return. They are ready for some good news and can almost taste it.

Are we talking about Winnipeg or Quebec?

Actually both.

It’s hard to argue with Eric Belanger’s assessment that Quebec City would be a great location for an NHL team as well. It’s a beautiful city with a rich culture and a rabid hockey fan base.

Things have changed there, just as they have in the ’Peg. They are building a new arena and have deep-pocketed potential owners. Their fans have demonstrated time and again that they are dying to show their support for a team and won’t fail the NHL this time.

But they are still second in line.
