Jokinen leads NHL's Three Stars
NEW YORK -- Carolina Hurricanes forward Jussi Jokinen, Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron and Phoenix Coyotes netminder Ilya Bryzgalov have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Jan. 16.
Jokinen took home top honours after leading all players with seven points (3G, 4A) in three games last week. His best performance came in a 6-5 shootout victory over Calgary on Jan. 11, which he aided with two goals and one assist. The Finnish winger also tallied two goals and a helper in a 6-4 decision against Tampa Bay last Saturday.
The sixth-year pro has notched 10 goals and 33 points in 38 games this season.
Taking "Second Star" was Bergeron, who equaled Jokinen's point total for the week but needed one more game to match it. The Quebec native posted his first career hat trick as the Bruins waxed the Senators, 6-0, on Jan. 11, and posted two assists as Boston rallied late to down Pittsburgh, 4-2, the day before.
Rounding out the weekly winners was Bryzgalov, who took home third-star honours after going 3-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average, stopping 91-of-97 shots in three starts.
