Reports indicate that the NHL Players Association have suspended all operations for the entire union, including those responsibilities performed by interim Executive Director Ian Penny.

The NHLPA has been in disarray in recent months since former Executive Director Paul Kelly was fired in August. The 30-player committee voted to replace Kelly after allegations that he was too close to the NHL brass and was therefore not working hard enough in the interest of the players.

Some reports have even suggested that Kelly was too "media friendly" for the taste of the representatives.

Last week the NHLPA announced it had voted to create an internal review board consisting of current and former NHL players Chris Chelios, Rob Blake, Nik Lidstrom and Mark Recchi.

Penny was apparently getting set to resign as interim Executive Director earlier this week when he released a memo saying he felt like he had been "constructively dismissed" by the union as reported by the Sun.

There is no word as to how the suspension will affect the league and NHL players.
