The NHL Players' Association is searching for a new executive director after Paul Kelly was fired early Monday morning after two years on the job.

They may not have to look far.

The anti-Kelly forces, led by NHLPA ombudsman Buzz Hargrove and former player Eric Lindros, are thought to favour the hiring of Halifax lawyer Ron Pink, who is already a member of the advisory board.

Pink was a front-runner to replace Ted Saskin as boss of the players' union. But Pink ultimately lost out to Kelly, a Boston lawyer, who helped put former executive director Alan Eagleson behind bars.

Pink is the managing partner of Pink Breen Larkin, an Atlantic Canada law firm which represents clients with union-side labour law issues. He has extensive experience with trade unions and collective bargaining, as well as pension and benefits.
