MONTREAL -- The National Hockey League salary cup is going to rise slightly next season.

League sources told Sun Media the cap will be $56.8 million for the 2009-10 campaign -- up about $100,000 from last year.

That should make next week's free agent sweepstakes that much more interesting as the cap is sure to fall a year from now, a result of the worldwide economic recession.

The cap is linked to league revenues, which rose a bit last year, but are expected to drop substantially in the coming year.
