Healthy scratch keeps brothers from clashing
By DEREK VAN DIEST, EDMONTON SUN

DALLAS -- Daniel Tjarnqvist was happy to be able to see his younger brother Mathias a couple of days before Christmas.

However, it was a disappointment not to go up against him last night in Dallas. The 27-year-old left-winger was a healthy scratch.

"It's always fun to play against him," Daniel said.

"You try to watch whatever he does out there. I know for sure he's going to run me over any time he gets a chance. So I have to keep my head up."

Mathias Tjarnqvist is in his first full season with the Stars although he's only dressed for six games this year.

"In other years I've been going to see him at Christmas," Mathias said.

"But this year it's too far, so he's going to celebrate with his wife and I'm going to celebrate here. But it's nice to see him."

Last year Mathias split his time between Iowa of the AHL and Dallas.

This season he made the team out of training camp, but did not play for the first 20 games of the season.

At the end of November he was sent down to the minors for a pair of games before being recalled.

He doesn't have a point in the six games that he's played.

But he was in the lineup the last time the Oilers paid a visit to Dallas during early December.

"We don't get to see each other that much in the summer either," Daniel said. "We exchanged gifts (Friday) night. It was good to see him."
