How the devil are ya?

I can't imagine that I could be any better than I am right now. The sun is shining, I live on the west coast, I've got a great family, a good job. I've got a good life.

It's Saturday night and you're not calling a game. What are you gonna do?

I suspect that if I don't have a ball game to take my daughter to and if my son doesn't have to work, so we don't have to taxi the kids anywhere, we'll probably kick back with a couple of friends and barbecue. Just relax at home.

Pick five words to describe yourself.

These are the five: Can't. I don't dig me.

What were you like in high school?

I was always looking forward to the day I finished it. I was a good student and a great teacher manipulator.

What's your most treasured material possession?

I can honestly say I don't have a treasured material possession.

What's your poison?

Vin rouge.

Any particular country or grape?

Malbec.

What's your most unpleasant characteristic?

You know what? Unfair question. You'd have to ask other people. That's not a question I can answer, you have to ask those who know me.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever bought?

I'm a sucker for things like flip grips, for anything K-Tel, Canadian Tire. All that stuff on TV that's handyman stuff and I can't use any of it. It's all still in boxes.

What's the best advice you ever received?

It's from an old English teacher who always told me and I've passed this on to other people. It's a line from the Shakespeare play Hamlet when Polonius says to Laertes: To thine own self be true.

What was the first car you ever owned?

A 1964 Anglia.

What repairs can you do on your car?

I can change tires. I don't know if I can change the oil. Beyond changing a flat, I don't know if I can do any of it now.

What's your culinary specialty?

Spaghetti and meatballs. It's a house specialty.

What TV series do you want to own on DVD?

You know what, I can't answer that because if it's not news or sports, I don't watch it.

What's the best concert you've ever seen?

Tannahill Weavers.

If you weren't a broadcaster, what would you be doing?

I'd be an actor.

So you've always had a penchant for being on or behind the camera?

That's what I was going to be before I got into broadcasting. I took theatre arts at university (Victoria).

What trait do you admire most in people?

Honesty.

Do you get asked for autographs?

Yes.

Do you like to sign autographs?

If it makes somebody else happy, that's cool with me.

Who gets asked to sign more autographs, you or Greg Millen?

I don't know because I've never seen him do any. We seldom do them together, so I don't know.

What would we always find in the Hughson fridge?

(Laughs) You'll always find things for kids' lunches plus some things that have been there for six months.

What's your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is that one of these days, going into a hotel, I'll get caught in the revolving door and never get out.

What's the ugliest thing in your wardrobe?

The old, powder blue Hockey Night in Canada jacket.

Could you be convinced to karaoke and, if so, what song would you do?

I couldn't be convinced to do karaoke. There's not enough beer in Calgary.
