CAROLINA HURRICANES

Post-season inexperience rules here ... 'Canes putting faith in Martin Gerber (0-0, 0, 3.00), who got into two playoff games while with Anaheim ... Backup is rookie Cam Ward.

NEW YORK RANGERS

Henrik Lundqvist (hip flexor) hopes to return for season finale on Tuesday ... Is an NHL rookie, but showed his mettle for Olympic gold-medalist Swedes ... If called upon, backup Kevin Weekes (3-2, 2, 1.62) must rely on his brief taste of post-season.

BUFFALO SABRES

Ryan Miller and Martin Biron have a combined for zero NHL post-season appearances ... Miller is expected to start.

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

Flyers said to be leaning toward more experienced Robert Esche (11-7, 1, 2.31) over rookie Antero Niittymaki, who won Olympic silver with Finland ... Both could see action ... Esche missed yesterday's game against Rangers with the flu.

NEW JERSEY DEVILS

Martin Brodeur (84-60, 20, 1.87) ranks second in all-time playoff shutouts and fourth in post-season wins and appearances ... His seven shutouts in 2003 are a record for a single playoff year.

MONTREAL CANADIENS

Despite heroics of Cinderella Cristobal Huet (no post-season appearances), GM/coach Bob Gainey toying with starting playoffs with David Aebischer (6-5, 1, 2.07) because of experience factor.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING

With the departure of Nikolai Khabibulin, neither John Grahame (0-1, 0, 1.66) nor Sean Burke (12-22, 1, 3.29) have been consistent enough ... Don't be surprised if both see action if Tampa gets in.

ATLANTA THRASHERS

No playoff experience for Mike Dunham or injured rookie Kari Lehtonen (sprained ankle), who will be out for the remainder of the regular season ... Thrashers have gone 4-0-1 with Dunham since Lehtonen injury.

WESTERN CONF.

DETROIT RED WINGS

Chris Osgood (45-37, 10, 2.34) leads all Western Conference playoff-bound goalies in post-season appearances and helped Wings win Cup in 1998 ... Nevertheless coach Mike Babcock will go with Manny Legace (2-2, 0, 2.34) after his strong regular season.

DALLAS STARS

Marty Turco (7-10, 0, 2.30)will try to improve on sub-.500 post-season record ... Experienced playoff backup in Johan Hedberg (10-10, 2, 2.31).

CALGARY FLAMES

Miikka Kiprusoff (16-12, 5, 1.85) showed two years ago that he can carry a team to the finals ... Flames in trouble if they have to go to backup Philippe Sauve, who has no career playoff appearances.

NASHVILLE PREDATORS

Season-ending injury to Tomas Vokoun leaves Preds with duo of starter Chris Mason and backup Pekka Rinne, who have never seen NHL playoff action.

ANAHEIM MIGHTY DUCKS

Like Kiprusoff, J.S. Giguere (15-6, 5, 1.62) carried his team to a berth in final (2003) ... Backup Ilya Bryzgalov has never been in an NHL playoff game.

SAN JOSE SHARKS

Vesa Toskala has no NHL post-season experience, but coach Ron Wilson is believed to be leaning toward him ... Just two regulation losses since Feb. 1. ... Evgeni Nabokov (18-15, 4, 2.13) has suffered through injury-plagued season.

COLORADO AVALANCHE

Hope to ride Jose Theodore (11-15, 1, 2.54) into post-season ... Are commited to ex-Hab, who earns $5.3 million US next season.

EDMONTON OILERS

Oilers will live and die with Dwayne Roloson (6-7, 0, 2.92) who was acquired at trade deadline ... Roloson has played every minute of the 19 games since the March 8 trade from Minnesota, posting 2.50 average in that time ... Likely gets season finale off tomorrow versus Avs.
