Notre Dame Fighting Irish defenceman Jared Beers has been suspended from the university's hockey team indefinitely after allegedly attacking a bar manager when she tried to kick him out.

"The university is aware of this incident and is confident that it will be handled in a prompt and professional manner through the criminal justice system," a Notre Dame spokesperson said in a statement.

The manager of the South Bend, Ind., bar told police that she told Beers to leave after the hockey player tried to take alcohol from the tables of other guests, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The woman said Beers refused to leave, punched her in the face and stepped on her head, face and neck while she was on the ground. He also pulled on her ponytail. Beers ran when police were called.

In the scuffle, however, Beers left his wallet at the bar. Officers called Beers to the station to retrieve his wallet and arrested him when he arrived later that night.
