Connor McDavid and Sam Reinhart one day will have the support of thousands of cheering fans in their National Hockey League home buildings.

It’s a safe assumption that both will be NHL stars, with Reinhart in the running to be the No. 1 pick in the NHL draft next June and McDavid the consensus top choice in 2015.

But it was a small, yet boisterous, band of Canada supporters that caught the attention of the two youngsters Thursday, as most of the 1,861 in attendance at the Isstadion for Canada’s 7-2 win against Germany were wearing red and white.

“Probably the Canadian fans who made the trip,” McDavid said when asked about his initial world junior experience. “I was not expecting that at all. It was unbelievable. I got chills when I was skating on the ice for the first bit.”
