UFA, RUSSIA - As Team Canada prepared to try and wrap their hands around a bronze medal at the world junior championship Saturday morning, the dismantling of what went wrong in a lop-sided seminfinal loss to the Americans had already begun.

“We used to find ways to win,” said Hockey Canada’s senior director of hockey operations Scott Salmond. “We haven’t found ways to win lately.”

So, you start with the beginning.

Specifically, as Salmond and probably a few million Canadians wondered Friday, how could Canada come out and look as ill-prepared on the ice as they did in the first period against the Americans?
