Ferland could rejoin junior team

CALGARY - Calgary Flames prospect Michael Ferland is reportedly close to rejoining the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The 20-year-old winger skated with the Western Hockey League squad on Boxing Day and told Brandon-based reporters he's hoping to spend the

remainder of the campaign in the junior ranks.

If he gets his wish, it will mark the end of a miserable first season of Ferland's professional puck career.

He was charged with assault after a fight outside a bar in Cochrane in July and wasn't in tip-top shape when he reported to training camp with the AHL's Abbotsford Heat.

A fifth-round pick of the Flames in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Ferland has dressed for just seven games with the Heat and made three appearances for the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies so far this season. He also battled a back injury.

Ferland had 47 goals and 49 assists in 68 regular-season games with the Wheat Kings last winter. His only point this season is a
