Team Canada was looking to get back to the top of the podium after a lengthy drought and Bob Nicholson knew exactly where to find his head coach for the 2005 Word Junior Championship.

And when Nicholson sat down with Brent Sutter to offer him the job, he got right to the point.

“I’ll never forget my first meeting with Bob, when they approached me about doing it, he was very upfront with me,” said Sutter, who is back behind the bench of the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.

“He said, ‘Brent, I want you to run this just like you do with your program in Red Deer. We’ve got to get this thing turned around and back to where we need to get it to. Obviously, winning gold is everything. That’s just the way we work.’ ”

The Vancouver Canucks should replace ex-coach Alain Vigneault with...
