WINNIPEG - Mark Scheifele is getting a second chance to leave a big impression.
The Winnipeg Jets’ prospect was named to Canada’s 2013 world junior team on Thursday and will attempt to help his country win a gold medal in Ufa, Russia.
“To get that knock on the door and know you’re part of the team is an unbelievable experience, an unbelievable moment,” Scheifele said in a telephone interview from Calgary on Friday. “I’m so excited, I can’t wait to get things started.”
Although he sat out both exhibition games against CIS opponents after suiting up in the Red/White scrimmage on Tuesday, Scheifele is projected to play right wing on Canada’s top line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jonathan Huberdeau.
