CALGARY - When a Hall of Famer is giving advice, it’s best to listen.

With that in mind, Steve Spott soaked up all he could when he often met with Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman during the Canada/Russia Subway Series in November. And when it came time to name Canada’s roster for the 2013 world junior championship, Spott, Canada’s head coach, took the words of Yzerman, who went into the Hall in 2009 following a prolific NHL career, to heart.

“I had a really wonderful time to spend with Steve and one thing he talked about was that you can never have too much skill on your hockey club,” Spott said. “There’s a lot of speed.”
