OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators have a bunch of angry Swedes on their backs.
Roger Ronnberg, coach of Sweden’s national team for the world junior championship taking place in Ufa, Russia later this month, told reporters Monday he isn’t happy the Senators won’t allow Mika Zibanejad to attend.
So upset are the Swedes with the Senators’ decision not to allow the 19-year-old Zibanejad to leave the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton to play in the world juniors, they even contacted NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly to try to get him to step into the situation.
“It’s pretty damn sad to me that Canadians in Ottawa’s management will sit and decide about the Swedish junior national team,” said Ronnberg. “Europeans always have to be on our backs for them over there and that they can dictate and decide about these tournaments.
