TORONTO - While there will be plenty of solid storylines that emerge from Canada’s world junior selection camp next week in Calgary, we’ve narrowed it down to five that fans should keep an eye on. Players will report to Hockey Canada on Monday and hit the ice on Tuesday, with the team selected Thursday night.
1. The goaltending
There’s no true area of concern, but the race to be the No. 1 netminder is wide open. Though Malcolm Subban was the best goalie for Canada against Russia in August, he’s going to have to earn a spot on the team in camp. Both Jordan Binnington and Laurent Broissoit have Memorial Cup experience, while Jake Paterson is the only one of the four who would be eligible to return next year. Every one of them has been stellar this season, but how they play in camp will determine whether they go to Russia. Because of travel difficulties if one gets hurt overseas, just one goalie will be cut.
