World Junior camp rosters unveiled

Three Manitobans and Winnipeg Jets first round draft pick Mark Scheifele have been invited to Canada's World Junior Hockey Championship selection camp.

Winnipeg's Mark Stone, a star forward with the Brandon Wheat Kings, leads the Manitoba contingent.

He's joined by teammate Michael Ferland of Brandon and Oakbank's Quinton Howden of the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors.

Howden was on Team Canada last year as well.

Scheifele was taken seventh overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Jets last June.

"It will be great for the development part of things for him," Jets coach Claude Noel said of Scheifele. "It's a high level, it's pressure-packed and that's all part of maturing. There are 41 players and hopefully he gets through that process and makes the team. He's had a lot of success going back to junior and I really hope he gets an opportunity to stay there. There's tremendous growth opportunity there."

Jets but is now playing with the Barrie Colts of the OHL.

The selection camp will be held Dec. 10-14 in Calgary.

The World Junior Hockey Championship starts Boxing Day in Calgary and Edmonton.
