Charges have been laid against two players in an alleged sexual assault involving the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees hockey team.

Ottawa police assisted Thunder Bay police with arrests in the case.

The incident took place in Thunder Bay in February, where the Gee-Gees were on a road trip. It surfaced with a friend of the victim contacting police, who then began an investigation.

Charged with sex assault are Guillaume Donovan, 24, and David Foucher, 25, according to numerous reports. Both men are listed as team members on the Gee-Gees website, and their hometowns are listed as Gatineau.

In late June, the University of Ottawa suspended its men’s varsity hockey program for the 2014/2015 season and fired its head coach following an internal review into the allegations.

The coach had been aware of the alleged incident and tried to handle it himself -- without reporting it to the school -- said university officials at the time.
