LONDON - Maybe what we’re dealing with here is a curse.

I mean, it’s reaching the point where you have to consider it.

Maybe nearly having to hold a memorial for the Memorial Cup, as was the storyline when the Spokane Chiefs broke the Cup back in 2008, is the root of it.

Maybe the WHL has been cursed since captain Chris Bruton watched the Cup come apart in his hands and the big base crash to the ice as he held the silver top.

A WHL club hasn’t won the Memorial Cup since.

You watch Mads Eller attempt to shoot a puck down the ice from behind his own net and bounce it in off a Guelph Storm player like happened here Saturday when the Edmonton Oil Kings were leading the Guelph Storm 2-1 ,and you have to wonder.

You watch Ashton Sautner clear one off his own broken hockey stick to create a breakaway when the Oil Kigs were leading the Val-d’Or Foreurs, and you wonder.

You see Griffin Reinhart turn one over for a goal on a missed icing call and you wonder.<
