SAULT STE. MARIE, ONT. - An Ontario Hockey League referee was replaced prior to Saturday night's game here after a crude message appeared on his Twitter feed: “Soo Saint Marie, two words, Slim Pickens. #noteeth #hicktown #allfaties.”
Joe Monette of Windsor, Ont., worked the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds game Friday night against the Windsor Spitfires with fellow referee Ryan Hutchison.
The offensive tweet was posted on his account (@MONZY25) after the game, at 11:34 p.m.
Monette was scheduled to work the Greyhounds game the following night against the Oshawa Generals, but Hutchison refereed the game with Chris Carnegie.
