The reeling Saskatoon Blades had to do something.

After three straight losses — including a 10-1 pounding on home ice, Blades GM/head coach Lorne Molleken made a change.

The Blades acquired Red Deer Rebels captain Adam Kambeitz on Thanksgiving Monday in exchange for forward Christian Stockl, 17, and a third-round bantam pick.

Rebels boss Brent Sutter said it was tough to trade the popular overager.

“Adam’s been with our organization since he was 16 years old and has been our team captain since 2011,” Sutter said. “ This is a tough trade to make because of what he’s done for this team.

“But we had four 20-year-olds and had to make a decision before October 11th.

“With Saskatoon hosting the Memorial Cup, they were looking to add a player like Adam to their lineup.”

The Blades now have four overagers and will need to trim one from their roster.
