OHL reduces Spitfires punishment for recruiting violations

The penalty has been softened for the Windsor Spitfires' recruiting violations, the OHL announced Friday.
The Spitfires will be fined $250,000 -- down from $400,000 -- and will forfeit first-round draft picks in 2013 and 2016, and second-rounders in 2015 and 2017. Initially, the Spitfires were to give up three first-round picks and two second-rounders.
The Spitfires will not appeal the decision and have accepted that their were certain violations of the league's recruitment policy, the OHL said. Commissioner David Branch announced the reduction after meeting with Spitfires officials.
The league said neither side will comment further on the issue.
