Ryan Nugent-Hopkins showed Tuesday why he's expected to be one of the top prospects for the 2011 NHL draft.

The Red Deer Rebels forward scored a hat trick to lead Canada to a 7-3 win over Switzerland at the under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia. Already tabbed as a probable top-three pick for the 2011 draft, Nugent-Hopkins now has four goals and one assist in two games, both wins, for the defending tournament champion Canadians.

The win clinched a spot in the semifinals for Canada, winners of the tournament five times in the last six years.

Brett Richie scored twice for Canada while Dougie Hamilton of the Niagara IceDogs and Xavier Ouellet of the Montreal Junior had the other goals. Daniel Catenacci of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Jonathan Huberdeau of the Saint John Sea Dogs both had two assists.

Belleville Bulls goalie Tyson Teichmann stopped 21 shots for Canada.

Alessio Bertaggia, Marwin Leu and Jordan Gahler scored for Switzerland while goalie Kevin Huber made 33 saves.

Canada wraps up round-robin play Wednesday against Slovakia.

The top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals on Friday, with the winners moving on to the gold-medal game Saturday.
