Hitmen defenders getting noticed
By SCOTT FISHER, SUN MEDIA

Calgary Hitmen defencemen Austin Madaisky and Matt MacKenzie are on the board.

Madaisky is slated 20th among WHL skaters in NHL Central Scouting's preliminary rankings. MacKenzie is 24th.

Reigning CHL rookie of the year Brett Connolly (Prince George Cougars), who hasn't played since Oct. 3 due to a hip injury, tops the list, followed by Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Mark Pysyk.

Red Deer Rebels d-man Alex Petrovic, Medicine Hat Tigers rookie forward Emerson Etem and Portland Winterhawks blueliner Troy Rutkowski round out the top five.

Seattle Thunderbirds goaltender Calvin Pickard is the top-ranked WHL netminder on the list.

Rockets unload sniper

The Kelowna Rockets traded leading scorer Stepan Novotny to the Swift Current Broncos Monday for power forward Geordie Wudrick.

"We're happy to be able to acquire a player like Geordie Wudrick," Rockets president and GM Bruce Hamilton told The Daily Courier. "He's a high-end player."
