The Ottawa sports community has lost one of its pillars.
Howard Darwin, the founding father of both the 67ís junior hockey team and the now-defunct Lynx baseball franchise, passed away early Thursday morning at the Civic Hospital Heart Institute of complications from a surgery last month.
He was 78.
Darwin, a member of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame, was also a one-time boxing and wrestling promoter. Known by his many friends as a great guy, he was the owner of a jewellery store in Westboro, and previously owned the OHLís London Knights.
