Madaisky works magic to beat Rebels

The Red Deer Rebels brought out the best in Austin Madaisky.

The Calgary defenceman had a Gordie Howe hat-trick last night as the Hitmen beat the Rebels 6-3 at the Red Deer Centrium.

The sophomore blueliner scored even strength, added an assist on the powerplay and also dropped the mitts with Rebels winger Connor Redmond.

Fellow d-man Michael Stone had a pair of goals and an assist as the Hitmen won their second straight and improved to 9-3-0.

Joel Broda, Brandon Kozun and Red Deer product Chase Schaber also scored as the Hitmen chased Rebels starter Darcy Kuemper with five goals on 20 shots.

Rebels rookie sensation Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Andrej Kudma and Nathan Green replied for Red Deer (6-7-0).

The turning point came seven minutes into the middle frame when the Rebels picked up three minors during a single stoppage in play.

The Hitmen scored on both two-man advantages and never looked back.

Calgary starter Martin Jones made 33 saves and has yet to taste defeat this season at 5-0-0.

The Hitmen's top-ranked powerplay scored three goals (3-for-6) for the second straight game.

The Rebels connected on two of six opportunities with the man advantage.

Madaisky, Stone, Broda and Kozun all finished with three points.

The Hitmen host the Edmonton Oil Kings tonight (7 p.m. at the Dome, Fan 960).
