SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. -- Craig Hartsburg is poised to return behind the bench.

A source says the former Senators bench boss has accepted a two-year deal to coach the WHL's Everett (Wash.) Silvertips. The hiring is expected to be announced this week.

The Silvertips, who entered the WHL as an expansion franchise in 2003, have been seeking a new coach since firing John Becanic following the 2008-09 season.

Sun Media learned Hartsburg -- who now lives in Echo Bay, just east of Sault Ste. Marie, where he coached the OHL's Greyhounds before joining the Senators in 2008 -- travelled to Everett to meet with Silvertips GM Doug Soetaert earlier this month.

"Obviously, I want to get back into the game," Hartsburg said two weeks ago. "You miss it when you're away. When you're out of it, you sit back and think of how much you want to work."

Hartsburgh -- who turns 50 a week from tomorrow -- was fired by the Senators 48 games into last season after compiling a 17-24-7 record.

Under terms of his contract, he'll continue to be paid by the Senators through 2010-11, although the payments would be adjusted downward depending on what he would earn with the Silvertips.
