Cops have charged a 19-year-old woman with a traffic offence in connection with a crash that killed a loveable, former WHL goalie.

Former Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Michael Maniago, 20, was killed Nov. 29 when the Volkswagen Jetta he was driving collided with a northbound Toyota 4Runner SUV at 2:30 a.m. at Chaparral Blvd. and Marquis of Lorne Tr. S.E. Police said the driver of the northbound Toyota SUV was making a left turn to go west on Marquis of Lorne when she struck the car in the intersection.

Last Thursday, cops charged Ashley McElgunn, 19, with one count of fail to make left turn in safety.

She is scheduled to appear in court April 22.

Friends said Maniago was driving with his younger brother Matthew and two friends to pick up pizza when the crash occurred.

He died at the scene and his brother and two friends were taken to hospital along with one of the four occupants of the SUV.
