Majors closing in on home-ice edge

Kaspars Daugavins scored the winner early in the third period last night as the visiting Mississauga St. Michael's Majors ended a mini two-game slide by edging the Sudbury Wolves 4-3 in Ontario Hockey League action.

The victory, combined with Niagara's loss in Kingston, gave the Majors a nine-point bulge on the IceDogs for fourth place in the East and home ice in the first round of the playoffs.

William Wallen, Kale Kerbashian and Blake Parlett also scored for St. Mike's. Kain allcock, Matt Dias and Eric O'Dell replied for the Wolves.

At Sault Ste. Marie, Alex Hutchings scored twice as the Colts broke open a goalless game with four in the second.

Josh Brittain, Daniel Michalsky, Darren Archibald abnd Kyle Clifford each had one while Michael Hutchinson stopped 25 shots for his fourth shutout of the season.

At London, the Spits got goals from six different players and outshot the hosts 43-23 in a potential preview of the Western Conference final.John Tavares scored twice for the Knights.

At Guelph, Taylor Beck and Brandon Buck each tallied twice to pace the Storm, while Brandon Foote posted his first shutout of the season, making 35 saves.

At Kingston, Nathan Moon scored twice as the Frontenacs rallied from a 2-0 second-period deficit.
