Spitfires stoned by familiar face

Goaltender Matt Hackett turned away 47 shots and Chris Terry scored two goals as the Plymouth Whalers snapped the Windsor Spitfires' 14-game win streak last night with a 4-2 Ontario Hockey League victory in Michigan.

The Spitfires (43-6-1) had not lost since falling on home ice Dec. 18 against Kitchener. They have dropped two of three visits to Compuware Arena this season.

Hackett, a former Spitfire, made several key stops, including short-handed breakaways by Scott Timmins and Taylor Hall, both among the OHL's top five scorers.

At Saginaw, Mich., Joe Pleckaitis scored twice as the Majors were beaten despite a 37-26 edge in shots on goal.

Ryan Lopes, William Wallen, Kaspars Daugavins and Blake Parlett scored for St. Mike's, which gave up two power-play goals in the second period to fall behind 4-2.

At Erie, Pa., Shawn Szydlowski fired a hat trick while Andrew Yogan had two goals and four assists to send the Generals to their fifth loss in a row. Brett Parnham, with his 34th, and Kory Nagy had the Oshawa goals.

At Belleville, Kory Tanaka scored twice for the Bulls, including the winner 4:14 into overtime.
