Landon Ferraro has speed to burn.

The Red Deer Rebels youngster won the fastest-skater competition at last week's Top Prospects skills competition.

The probable first-round selection in this year's NHL entry draft, completed his lap in 14.009 seconds, a time that could have been even better.

"I slipped going around the fourth corner, so I thought I'd lost it," Ferraro told the Red Deer Advocate.

Swift Current Broncos speedster Cody Eakin was two one-hundredths of a second behind Ferraro.

ISLANDERS HEAD NORTH

The New York Islanders are going to Saskatoon.

The NHL squad has agreed to hold training camp in Bridge City Sept. 12-20.

The Isles will also play exhibition games in Saskatoon against the Calgary Flames (Sept. 19) and the Edmonton Oilers (Sept. 20).

WHEATIES WINGER OUT FOR YEAR

The WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings have lost Sanfred King for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old RW suffered a broken leg in Saturday night's 7-4 road victory over the Prince Albert Raiders.
