The front-running Windsor Spitfires have made their big move.

That likely leaves London as the overwhelming favourite to pry superstar John Tavares out of Oshawa but the Generals want GM Mark Hunter to sweeten the offer.

Spits GM Warren Rychel pulled off a multi-player deal that landed over-age defenceman Ben Shutron, centre Scott Timmins and goalie Josh Unice from Kitchener.

In return, Windsor sent the Rangers goalie Brandon Maxwell, who will play for the United States Under-18 team until he end of this season, over-age forward Jacob Lalonde, Kitchener's third-round pick this year, Sault Ste. Marie's second-round pick in 2010 and the Spits second-rounder in 2011.

Tavares is slated to dress for Oshawa tonight in Belleville. He has said he wants to play. The Knights play in Erie tonight.

Scott Valentine and rookie Christian Thomas, both named in reported trades for Tavares, are expected to make the trip to Erie.
