More rehearsing required

It's one week until opening night and Oil Kings head coach Steve Pleau admits his team still needs a little rehearsing.

The Oil Kings dropped a 5-3 decision to the Red Deer Rebels last night in their second last game of the pre-season, a result that had Pleau scratching his head at times.

"I thought we played hard but obviously we gave up five goals so our game's got holes in it," he said, after the Kings fell behind 4-1 at Black Gold Arena in Leduc before coming back to make a game of it in the third period.

"I'm glad that we still have a week to work on those holes."

Tommi Kivisto, Cody Esposito, Cody Gross, Landon Ferraro and Brett Ferguson scored for the Rebels.

Ferraro had a goal and an assist while his father, former NHLer Ray Ferraro, watched from the stands.

Craig McCallum, Brenden Dowd and Tomas Vincour replied for the Oil Kings.

"I think we did a lot of good things offensively, we generated a lot of good chances," said Pleau.

"We got frustrated a little bit on the power play, but our power play came through when we needed it. We have to work on our PK a little bit and I thought we had some holes in our neutral zone."

The Oil Kings are currently at 27 players and want to get down to 23 or 24 before the season opener, Sept 19. They have one more pre-season game left, Saturday in Airdrie against the Calgary Hitmen.
