Team Canada wouldn't stand in Benoit Groulx's way.

Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson said there are no hard feelings between the governing body and the former Gatineau Olympiques coach, who's taking over as bench boss of the AHL's Rochester Americans, an affiliate of the Florida Panthers.

While Hockey Canada wanted Groulx behind the bench for the world junior championship, Nicholson understood when Groulx accepted the AHL offer from Panthers GM Jacques Martin.

"We had a lot of discussions with Benoit about going back to Gatineau. He'd just signed a contract and just bought a house, so he was caught a little off guard as well," said Nicholson. "We wish him all the best and now we have to move forward.

"We have a lot of depth in the coaching ranks. I understand his desire to get to the next level. That's the way Hockey Canada should be."
