The Vancouver Giants lost the battle, but they're hoping to win the war.

The Medicine Hat Tigers wrestled the Western Hockey League championship away from Vancouver in a 3-2 double overtime classic on Monday in Alberta. But Vancouver hopes to diminish Medicine Hat's achievement during the May 18-27 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Game 7 of the WHL final was delayed three times because of foggy ice-level conditions. Finally, Tiger Brennan Bosch beat Giant netminder Tyson Sexsmith for the title winner at 7:16 of the second sudden death stanza.

Wacey Rabbit and Michal Repik had the Giants' goals in Vancouver's longest game since joining the WHL in 2001.

The Giants took a day off yesterday but return to training today for the Memorial Cup.

Major junior hockey's final four tournament begins Friday when Vancouver hosts Ontario Hockey League champion Plymouth Whalers at the Pacific Coliseum.

The Tigers take on the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Lewiston MAINEiacs on Saturday.

The rematch between Vancouver and Medicine Hat comes May 23 in the tournament's final round robin game.

The final is May 27.
