Only the Medicine Hat Tigers stand in the way of the Vancouver Giants repeating as Western Hockey League champions.

The Giants, who beat Prince George Cougars in the Western championship, meet Eastern champion Medicine Hat tonight to begin the best-of-seven series (6:30 p.m. on AM 730).

Game 2 is tomorrow in Medicine Hat.

Games 3, 4 and (if necessary) 5 are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the Pacific Coliseum.

Games 6 and 7 would be in Medicine Hat.

It'll be the first playoff meeting between the teams, who split their 2006-2007 regular season matches. The Giants were 5-4 overtime winners on Nov. 3, but the Tigers edged Vancouver 3-2 on Jan. 12.

Giants Kenndal McArdle and Cody Franson and Tigers Kris Russell and Darren Helm were teammates on Canada's 2007 World Junior Hockey Championship gold medal-winning team.

Regardless of the result, the Giants host the MasterCard Memorial Cup May 18-27.
