FORT SASKATCHEWAN -- The Fort Saskatchewan Traders live for another day.
The Traders outlasted the Camrose Kodiaks for a 6-5 triple overtime victory in front of a packed Jubilee Rec Centre last night.
Defenceman Cam Ritchie's point shot at the 10:17 mark of the third overtime beat Kodiaks goaltender Allen York.
"It was like riding the world's largest roller coaster all night tonight," said Traders head coach Brett Cox.
"There were a lot of up's and a lot of down's but ultimately we have now given us an opportunity to live another day together."
The Traders held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes on a goal by veteran forward Kyle Pess, but the Kodiaks stormed out in the second period, and scored four goals in a 7:31 span, putting the Traders on their heels.
But two goals by Traders forwards Nick Blair and Mike Fiorillo made it a one goal game heading into the third period.
"They are a good team, and we had a false sense of security there, and you have to keep your pedal to the metal against them," added Cox.
Blair scored his second goal of the game early in the third, and Pess added his second just over a minute later to give the Traders a 5-4 lead, but the Kodiaks tied the game with one minute to go Chris Barton banged in a loose puck.
Fort Saskatchewan's Matt Frattin had a penlty shot in the second overtime but was stopped by York.
Ritchie's overtime winner capped off a remarkable five point (1 goal, 4 assists) night for the Traders defenceman.
