Western Hockey League champion Vancouver Giants lead the league with three players invited to Canada's final junior national team tryouts next week in Calgary.

Cody Franson, Brendan Mikkelson and Kenndal McArdle will vie for spots on the defending IIHF Junior World Champion squad Dec. 10-14.

They'll join 2005 Vancouver Canucks' first round pick Luc Bourdon in the 38-player camp under new national head coach Craig Hartsburg. Burnaby left winger McArdle joined the Giants late last week in a trade with the Moose Jaw Warriors. Blueliner Franson has 10 goals and 24 assists in 30 games. Fellow defenceman Mikkelson has 15 assists.

No Giants played for Canada during the 2006 tournament in Vancouver. Canada begins its quest for a world championship hat trick on Boxing Day against host Sweden.

Meanwhile, the Giants return to action tonight when they host the Tri-City Americans at 7 p.m. in the Pacific Coliseum.

Giants were shutout 4-0 by the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday and fell 6-5 to the Kamloops Blazers on Sunday.
