No style at 'Dome

It wasn't pretty.

Truth be told, it was downright ugly.

But they don't give style points in the standings and the Calgary Hitmen were more than willing to take their insomnia-curing 2-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans last night at the 'Dome.

Brodie Dupont and Keegan Dansereau scored first-period goals before the Hitmen boarded up the net against the Ams, who dropped their fourth straight.

Defenceman Craig Lineker, who was a big help to goalie Justin Pogge, said his squad was determined to get off to a quick start.

"We got off to an early start and that's what we've been needing to do," Lineker said of Dupont's goal just 26 seconds into the game.

"We've come out flat the last little while and our record in the last 10 shows that.

"We've been harping all week about getting an early lead. We did that and we were able to hang on the whole game."

Pogge continued to build on his franchise record with his WHL-leading ninth shutout this season.

The world junior gold-medallist kicked out just 14 pucks to lower his goal-against average to 1.63, also tops on the western circuit.

The Hitmen, who are now 11-4-1 following a loss, improved to 41-15-1-0, two points back of Central Division leading Medicine Hat. Calgary has a game in hand.
