VANCOUVER (CP) -- Canada's first game at the world junior hockey championships drew an average of 1.25 million viewers, the second-highest TSN audience ever for an opening game.
Audience levels for Canada's 5-1 win over Finland on Monday peaked at 1.4 million viewers from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET.
Last year's opener in Grand Forks, N.D., between Canada and Slovakia was the highest-rated Game 1 ever with 1.35 million viewers.
Monday's game ranked as the 20th most-watched program ever on TSN and the ninth-most watched world junior game.
TSN's coverage of the gold medal game from the 2003 tournament in Halifax attracted the largest audience in network history with 3.45 million viewers while last year's gold medal game was the second highest with 3.2 million viewers.
