The 67's made a trade with Windsor yesterday, sending goalie Anthony Guadagnolo and the rights to centre Adam Sponseller to the Spitfires.

"It gives (Guadagnolo) a chance to play, and it's something we can use down the road," said 67's coach-GM Brian Kilrea.

Guadagnolo began the season as the back-up goalie to Danny Battochio, but left the 67's last month due to a lack of playing time.

The Spitfires were in the market for a goalie after allowing more goals than any team in the OHL.

Sponseller, a fourth-round selection by Ottawa in last May's OHL draft, attended training camp in September but didn't make the club.

The teams also swapped drafting order in the 2006 European import selection.

DRAFT POSITION

Kilrea hopes that Windsor will finish lower than the 67's in the regular season, which would give him a higher pick in the European draft.

Kilrea made a similar deal with Oshawa last year, in which the teams traded selection order in the European draft.

That deal also included a swap of players, in which winger Chris Hulit came to Ottawa for centre Peter Tsimikalis.

Yesterday's deal led to speculation that it could include a second part later in the season involving Windsor sniper Steve Downie.

The 67's, like other OHL teams, are interested in acquiring Downie, who left the Spitfires earlier this month after a fight with rookie Akim Aliu in practice.

Downie, who scored 21 goals and 73 points last season, received a five-game suspension from the club, but demanded a trade and left for home.

REID OUT: 67's defenceman Elgin Reid suffered a wrist injury during last Friday's game against Kingston and will likely miss this weekend's action, including Friday's home game against Belleville. "It hurts us," said Kilrea, whose team has dropped two straight games. "We need Elgin on the ice. He's one of our better players and him being out affects a lot of things."
